1 to 150 Tons per Hour in One Move: SSI Shredding Systems Acquires Schred Max
SSI Shredding Systems, Inc. (Wilsonville, Oregon, USA) has purchased Schred Max™ of Canada, bringing together the capabilities of two of North America's leading primary reduction product lines. The acquisition enables SSI to offer the most complete line of multi-material reduction equipment available-delivering cost-effective volume reduction at rates ranging from 1 to150 tons per hour. The brand name for the combined line is PRI-MAX™.
In recent years both companies have seen a market shift toward low-speed, primary reduction to supplement or replace high-speed equipment. John Dorscht, president of Schred Max, describes the trend this way, "People are tired of having their $400,000 high-speed grinders break down everyday. They need a way to pre-process material reliably and economically day after day. That's where the primary reduction equipment comes in."
Schred Max's niche has been in smaller applications, ranging from 1 to 25 tons per hour. Customers tend to start small and grow, feeling the need to scale up equipment as their business expands. But Schred Max™ has also served large projects that require small scale pre-processing. For instance, a PR-560 operating at "Ground Zero" in New York is well suited for a small underground service garage, yet it has sufficient power to break up tough debris. Despite the harsh environment, remediation contractors have found the reducer dependable enough to run continuously for weeks on end without the need for maintenance.
SSI, for its part, has been covering 10 to 150 ton-per-hour applications with its robust line of Primary Waste Reducers™. Terri Ward of SSI is excited about the new, complete PRI-MAX™ product family. Commenting on the addition of the smaller machines, Ward says, "The acquisition allows us to offer a complete spectrum of primary and secondary reduction equipment. It also positions us to better serve the growing need on the East Coast for volume reduction and recycling of solid waste and C&D."
The two companies have previously worked together in cross-referrals and combining product lines is the next logical step. With SSI, Schred Max customers will continue to have a trusted supplier of parts, service, and reduction equipment.
SSI's acquisition of Schred Max™ fits well into its long-standing philosophy of concentrating first on customer requirements. Now, with the new, complete PRI-MAX™ line of multi-material reducers, SSI can ask the question, "What needs shredding?™" with confidence that they have a solution to process any material for any size job.
