Common applications for SSI include: thin gauge sheet, tin roofing and siding, stampings, turnings, formed parts, appliances and auto panels (not whole cars). Shredders are commonly used to remove airspace, increase density, reduce transportation costs and improve pricing.

SSI has many installations processing automobile, truck and industrial lead acid batteries. These corrosion resistant machines are purpose built and many of them have been in service for 20+ years processing 40+ tons per hour. Finished materials include recyclable metals, plastics and acid, which can be regenerated and re-used or converted into an additive found in laundry detergents.
