SSI Shredding Systems Develops Long-term Shredding Solutions for China’s BMEI Co., LTD to Process Hazardous Waste

One of the largest environmental engineering and research firms in China, BMEI Co., LTD, has moved ahead with its sixth industrial shredding solution manufactured by SSI Shredding Systems, to safely process hazardous waste throughout China

Wilsonville, OR – SSI Shredding Systems, Inc., recently received the sixth in a a series of orders from BMEI Co., LTD (formerly Beijing Machinery & Electricity Institute) for an industrial shredding solution to be used within BMEI’s Chinese hazardous waste processing systems. BMEI Co., LTD is one of China’s largest engineering firms specializing in environmental protection technology research and manufacturing for the treatment and disposal of hazardous waste. What began as a single shredder design has evolved into a standard piece of equipment for BMEI’s hazardous waste systems.

In May 2010 representatives from BMEI and U.S. based SSI Shredding Systems met for the first time at a waste industry tradeshow in Shanghai and opened a conversation about some of the challenges BMEI faced with their hazardous waste processing systems. At the time, BMEI was looking for improvements to their floor layout of new waste disposal systems, a new platform design, a more functional in-feed and discharge system and a solution to the threat of fire and explosions from processing hazardous waste. Over the next several months, both companies worked together to evaluate BMEI’s systems and discover where improvements could be made. In September 2010, SSI began implementation of the first of many new shredding solutions for BMEI.

Using infrared sensors and hydraulic fire gate separators, the new industrial shredder system provides effective ways to detect, suppress and protect against fire and explosions. In addition, engineers from SSI successfully designed new solutions to BMEI’s system floor layout, platforms and in-feed and discharge systems.

“Our entire team worked very closely with BMEI to assess and understand their needs. We are delighted to have successfully achieved the results BMEI expected and provide them with a long-term, consistent solution.” said Ruby Zhang, SSI Sales Executive for China.

Proper disposal of hazardous waste is one of the most challenging applications a waste management organization will face. As China's population continues to grow, so will the demand for safe disposal of hazardous waste in the country. With 70% of all hazardous waste facilities in China currently utilizg BMEI’s technology or systems, it’s no doubt that their ongoing working relationship with SSI Shredding Systems will continue to grow as well.

New Shredder in Indonesia from SSI Shredding Systems Helps ConvertIndustrial Waste to Alternative Fuel While Lowering Harmful Gases

Dangerous gas emissions from Indonesia’s landfills and waste incineration plants are decreasing thanks in part to PT Teknotama Lingkungan Internusa (EcoStar Group) and SSI Shredding Systems, who developed a shredder that reduces the size of industrial waste so it can be converted to alternative fuel and rawmaterials for products

Wilsonville, OR – With nearly 230 million residents, Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world and one of the largest producers of industrial waste. For years, the country has disposed of its waste either into landfills or through incineration. Both disposal methods cause harmful methane and carbon dioxide gases to be emitted into the atmosphere. PT Teknotama Lingkungan Internusa, a pioneer in waste management, has a plan to help change this.

PT Teknotama Lingkungan Internusa (EcoStar Group) has completed construction on a new facility in West Java, Indonesia that converts industrial waste to alternative fuel and useful rawmaterials.SSI Shredding Systems of Wilsonville, OR was contracted to construct an integral piece of the project - a shredder capable of reducing the size of the waste to small enough particles for easier handling, sorting and conversion down the line.

SSI Shredding Systems chose the Quad Q85HD shredder as the appropriate machine for the job. The hydraulic drive, four-shaft industrial shredder combines 200 horsepower with SSI’s hightorque, low-speed technology to efficiently reduce large volumes of waste to small, uniform particles. The Quad Q85HD shredder is built to handle almost any type of industrial waste including metal and non-metal materials.

The entire process produces an alternative fuel that is used to power industrial cement kilns throughout Indonesia. The raw materials produced are being used in brick and paving blocks and as ingredients for chemical products used in wastewater purification.

The new waste conversion facility is helping Indonesia to repurpose otherwise useless and potentially harmful industrial waste. The partnership between SSI Shredding Systems and PT Teknotama Lingkungan Internusa (EcoStar Group) continues to produce positive results in the ongoing mission to lower environmental pollution in Indonesia and around the world.
