February 2008 - Bowling Balls The Challenges Bowling balls are, by design, round and slippery. If you needed to shred a pallet full of bowling balls, it would be difficult on a standard two or four shaft shredder. An unrelated, yet fun, fact about bowling balls is that they will actually float in water. If the ball is less than 11 pounds, it will float. 11 pounds or more and it sinks. Give it a try! Okay, enough about that, back to the shredding.....what would you do if you needed to shred a bunch of round, slippery bowling balls? The Solution SSI manufactures a single rotor shredder, the Uni-Shear®. This type of technology allowed us to easily shred the bowling balls (and the pins too!)
