February 2009 - Bottles & Cans
The Challenges
This month's Shred of the Month is a 3-for-1 special, highlighting 3 of the most common reasons shredders are used:
1. Product/Security Destruction - Shredding outdated, defective, and returned products limits manufacturer's liability and protects consumers from unsafe or tainted products. Remember the recent peanut paste scare? You'd be surprised how many products are safely and quiety destroyed, never making it to store shelves.
2. Material Liberation - Shredding is an efficient way to mechanically liberate one material from another. Could you imagine popping open thousands of cans by hand to drain out all the liquid? Sounds like very sore thumbs!
3. Material Recovery - By shredding, desirable materials can be separated, recovered, and recycled for other uses. While the outdated tomato sauce won't end up in your favorite pasta dish, it may end up providing nourishment to some hungry farm animals. And of course, the aluminum and tin cans will become new cans once more!
The Solution
SSI's Dual-Shear™ M85 shredder was chosen to process the bottles and cans seen in this video. All containers were destroyed and the contents liberated. The 2-shaft shredder is a perfect fit for high volume product destruction, material liberation, and material recovery.
