January 2007 - Industrial Paper Rolls

The Challenges

When most people think of a paper shredder, they think of the kind they can buy at Office Depot for $50 to shred up their home office paper a few sheets at a time. Have you ever seen a shredder that can shred up 1,500 lb rolls, slabs and bales of paper? Or one that can shred 20-30 tons per hour? If your answer is "no", you're not alone. Many document shredding companies, paper manufacturers, and paper recyclers haven't either. Most are content to using high speed shredding machinery that can't come close to doing these things. High-speed shredders require a lot of power, they generate noise and dust, they are maintenance intensive, they require special foundations, and they have to be fed in a controlled way. Low-speed, high torque shredders don't have these problems, but the production capacity is often much lower....until now.

The Solution

SSI's PRI-MAX primary reducers are well-suited for the application of high-volume paper shredding in industrial environments, and they offer all of the benefits of low-speed, high-torque shredding technology. Mobile or stationary versions are available, allowing for multiple site or fixed-facility applications.
