October 2005 - ASR - Auto Shredder Residue The Challenges Auto shredder residue is a common problem through the world. The material needs to be a small particle size in order to burn (typically 50mm minus). The challenge is reducing the particle size in a cost effective manner. The material is very abrasive and has metal contamination which is difficult to remove because it can be encapsulated in other materials. Processing this combination of material requires cutters that are balanced between high impact and high abrasion resistance. The Solution SSI's Quad with hardfaced cutters.
